These books are very interesting. They were given to me by
a good friend at the church we used to attend.
They are dated from 1890 to 1899.
Horace S. Whitmarsh owned and/or taught from these books.
Upon further research I found that there was a Horace Whitmarsh
who married a Miss Cynthia J. Nickelson January 5, 18 88 . I believe
this could be the same person who owned these books.
The date above would place him at the same time these
books were dated.
The thing I like about these books is that Mr. Whitmarsh signed his name
and wrote the name of each student that attended his class.
He also indicated if they were present.
It would be interesting to know if any of these students were
well know later in their lives or made any kind of history.
(interesting note: I have a set of encyclopaedias that were signed by the
original owner. I mentioned in the Encyclopaedia posting that it
was hard to read the first name that was written on the
inside cover. I have thought it was Geo but was not sure.
In addition I have never heard of someone name Geo.
Interestingly, one of the names on this attendance
sheet is 'Geo'. In fact their are two Geo's written here,
which leads me to believe that Geo might have been a common name.
In light of this I think that Geo is the name of the
person who signed the ecyclopaedias.)

NOTE: Between the fall of 2000 and fall of 2001, I performed an extensive effort to perform a full inventory (with tombstone pictures) of Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur. The results of that effort are shown below. At the end of each entry is an indication of what section of the cemetery the stone is located in. Locations of each section within the cemetery can be seen on the map on my Riverside Cemetery index page.
