CHILD'S HISTORY OF ENGLAND

Charles Dickens, pub 1884

Charles Dickens' great great grandson,
Henry Dickens Hawksley
signed this book for me December 2007.

In December of 2007, my wife and I visited "Dickens on the Strand",
and found that Charles Dickens' great great grandson was going
to be there signing books.
While we were there we visited one of the vendors who were
selling books on the street and found several books written by
Charles Dickens.  Of course the book collector that I am, I asked
if they had older books.  Fortunately they had two by Charles Dickens:
A Child's History of England - 1884
&
Oliver Twist- 1907

Chapter I.
Ancient England And The Romans

If you look at a map of the world, you will see, in the left-
hand upper corner of the Eastern Hemisphere, two islands
lying in the sea.  They are England and Scotland, and Ireland.
England and Scotland form the greater part of these islands.
Ireland is the next in size. The little neighboring islands,
which are so small upon the map as to be mere dots, are chiefly
little bits of Scotland,--broken off, I dare say, in the course of
a great length of time, by the power of the restless water.
